Managing in Agile: Revolutionary Leadership in a Turbulent WorldAs agile and related methods become the de-facto approaches for product development, managers are faced with challenges as their organizations attempt to adapt. Complicating matters, we are dealing with ever-increasing amounts of change and complexity: new business demands, regulatory requirements, and technology improvements. Given all of this complexity and the uncertainty that comes along with it, managers are left having to answer the pivotal question: "How do I manage and lead effectively in such a complex world?" This workshop is a first step in a learning journey to greater management and leadership. Examining the complex nature of our work, we will explore systems thinking, the Theory of Constraints, Lean, feedback and related schools of thought, and practice with a few basic tools and approaches that will help us begin to lead in our increasingly-complex workplace. Workshop Hosts: Tom Looy and George SchlitzTom LooyTom Looy is an agile coach and trainer with BigVisible Solutions focusing primary on long-term (3 to 6 months) embedded agile coaching for teams embracing Agile for the first time or for teams looking to increase throughput of their existing agile implementations. He also performs agile training in a classroom style environment and is an international speaker at agile conferences.Tom has over 23 years of experience in software development including over 10 years in the agile community. In those 10 years he has worked with dozens of organizations as an IT Director, Scrum Master, Program Manager and an agile coach. As an agile coach, Tom has worked with organizations ranging in size from startups to Fortune 50 companies. His client’s domains have included international retail, finance, corporate law, shrink wrap software and embedded software systems.Tom combines his strengths as a teacher and coach with his in-depth understanding of agile methods, Lean concepts, Theory of Constraints, servant-leadership, and systems thinking to bring a constant focus on increasing throughput of business value and creating learning organizations. George SchlitzGeorge Schlitz is the founder of BigVisible Solutions, a coaching and enablement consultancy based in regions across the U.S. and in Europe.George has focused on coaching teams and leaders in improving product development methods and leadership of complex programs and projects. He has had extensive experience consulting in large organizations covering many industries. With a focus on systems thinking and organizational change, George is effective at guiding large-scale change efforts in very challenging organizations. George combines the strengths of agile methods, lean concepts, theory of constraints, and other related areas with a constant focus on organizational development and change in his consulting.George is a Certified Scrum Coach (CSC) and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). He received 2 bachelor’s degrees (Operations Management, Resource Economics) from the University of Massachusetts and an MBA from Bentley University. His professional experience is complemented by 12 years of experience as a U.S. Army soldier and officer.
