The Kissimmee River once meandered for more than 100 miles between Lake Kissimmee and Lake Okeechobee. The call for flood control transformed the river and its habitat-rich floodplain into a 56-mile canal system. Though it accomplished the objective of providing flood protection for homes and farms, the canals have devastated a world-class fishery and bird nesting site for the endangered Bald Eagle and many other wading birds. Join Bill Graff of South Florida Water Management District as he talks about the final phase of restoration construction to restore more than 40 miles of the meandering Kissimmee River.
