As everyone starts getting excited for the upcoming football season, there's been quite a few intriguing stories developing in the conference that pertain to basketball. Everything from perennial Big Ten contender Wisconsin losing their first exhibition game in Canada to Ohio State bringing in one of 2015's top forwards. Also, UM Hoops recent feature with Josh Bartelstein has provided an interesting look into the Michigan program and should tide you over until Bartelstein's book hits early this fall.
Wisconsin opened up their Canadian exhibition tour with a loss to Carleton University. Carleton University has won nine of the last eleven Canadian championships and rolled to an easy 95-82 win on Wednesday. Sam Dekker led the Badgers with 28 points but it wasn't enough to keep up with Phillip Scrubbs and the Ravens. Carleton's record versus NCAA teams is now 3-0 but they'll face a stiff test later today when they face Syracuse.
SB Nation's the Daily Gopher recently took an in-depth look at the Gophers current recruiting targets and made predictions on the possibility of landing these targets. As the season nears many recruits will start making their official visits as they try to decide on which school to attend.
Mickey Mitchell has committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes. The class of 2015 forward was one of the nation's top recruits prior to tearing his ACL during his sophomore season. Even with the ACL injury, Mitchell is still considered a four or five star recruit by all of the major scouting services. He joins recent commit A.J. Harris as the second player of Ohio State's 2015 class.
There are certain games you're not supposed to win, and that was the game we weren't supposed to win and we won it. The teams that get to the Final Four, it isn't just smooth sailing - you're going to have to overcome something. That was the game that we looked at and said we got the game we had to steal, not we just have to play good basketball.
To help promote Bartelstein's upcoming book, UM Hoops and Bartelstein have been discussing several related topics in a five part segment. Besides discussing the Final Four, Bartelstein also covers the ups and downs of the season, Mitch McGary's in-season progression and his views on the upcoming season.
