GnR Gets Booed; Angus Young Joins

I have to start by saying, I don’t think this was their fault.

Guns N’ Roses played Melbourne, Australia last night and there was a terrible traffic jam before the show. Many are saying that’s why the band started late.

Sure, Axl has been known to start shows up to 3 hours late – but not on this reunion tour. He’s been quite angelic, actually.

Then, when the band was introduced, the announcer called out SYDNEY instead of Melbourne, where they were playing. The crowd began to boo, as you might imagine.

It happens! And again, not Axl’s fault. I just feel I should defend him since he’s been so well-behaved on this tour and turning in some of the greatest performances of his career.

Oh yeah, and Angus Young joined the band on a couple of songs, including “Whole Lotta Rosie” below…

Southside Johnny Talks To Me About His Upcoming Area Shows And So Much More

Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes are a party band like nobody else.

When you see them in concert you can’t help but start moving and have a great time.

You can see for yourself when Johnny and The Jukes play The Mount Dora Community Center on February 28th.

Johnny was kind enough to talk to me about his upcoming shows in the area, his latest album, how Jon Bon Jovi says he wouldn’t be a singer if not for him and so much more.

Listen to the interview below and then check out a few videos below that.

Tom Petty’s Speech Inspires as Rock World Honors Him

Ahhhh, wish I was there.

Stevie Nicks gushed about her friend, Tom Petty, before dueting with him on Stop Dragging My Heart Around, “He is as sweet as he is talented.”Foo Fighters and Gary Clark, Jr. covered Breakdown (clip below).

Kicking off Grammy weekend on Friday night, February 10, Stevie Nicks, the Foo Fighters, ELO and many more celebrated Tom Petty as the MusicCares Person of the Year.

If you’re unfamiliar with Musicares, it’s a well-respected organization that gives musicians who are struggling financially, real help with health care or other personal issues. They’ll be able to help many more now after a record-breaking 8-and-a-half million dollars was raised at the Petty event.

He was given the honor for his creative achievements, but also for his efforts to do good in the world through philanthropy. Not only did Tom give the coolest speech, he also reunited with the Heartbreakers for the first time in about 2 years. Petty’s been spending the last couple producing records, he said.

He told a couple of super-cool stories about the evils of record companies, the story behind Free Fallin’, hangin’ with George Harrison and the origins of rock ‘n’ roll (“the ROLL denotes a swing.”)

Link to Petty’s speech below. Be warned, there’s an F-bomb 7 minutes and 28 seconds in.

Tonight! A Full Moon, Lunar Eclipse and a Pale Green Comet

The traditional Snow Moon is set to appear tonight just after sunset.   Be on the look out for it around 5:30 p.m and hang out, because around 7:43 p.m. you can witness the peak of the lunar eclipse.   You can then expect various changes to the moon’s color until 9:54 p.m.   In addition to that, what is called Comet 45P will be visible tonight as well.   However it is not visible to the naked eye, so if you want to see it make sure you’re in a dark environment with binoculars.   It’ll be greenish in color so if you’re looking for it you won’t miss it.   You can expect Comet 45P around 3 a.m.

Watch Some Of New Def Leppard Concert Film Coming Friday

Def leppard certainly showed in 2016 that the band has staying power.

They even returned to the road after giving Joe Elliott a chance to rest his voice.

They are also heading full bore into 2017 by releasing a new concert film “And There Will Be A Next Time: Live In Detroit” on February 10th.

Check out a few tunes from the film here.

Get A Preview Of New Roger Waters Music

Before setting out on the road for 2017’s Us + Them tour Roger Waters is working on new music.

Roger has been in the studio working with producer Nigel Godrich who has also worked with Paul McCartney.

It is from the studio that Roger posted this video to Instagram.

This clip sounds a lot like vintage Pink Floyd.

This will be the first new music from Waters in 25 years.

Watch Video For New Mellencamp Song

Just a couple weeks ago ohn Mellencamp released a new song called “Easy Target”.

The song has a very old style feel musically and if I didn’t know it was John Mellencamp I wouldn’t guess from the vocal.

Quite honestly it sounded more like Tom Waits singing and even musically.

John has never been one to shy away from tough topics and this song is no exception.

John walks head on into controversial topics in this song.

There is no album that seems to be planned to go with this song.

I get the feeling that once John wrote it he just wanted it out there.

I’ll keep my eyes and ears open for any album or tour news to go with this release.

The True Story Behind A U2 Classic

Derek Trucks Salutes Uncle Butch at Show

We found out yesterday that Allman Brother Butch Trucks died Tuesday at the age of 69.

One of the world’s most powerful drummers never missed a single Allman Brothers show – in the band’s entire 45-year history.

In 1999, Butch called his nephew to invite him to play with the band. Then 20-year-old Derek Trucks was already known to be a guitar great. He ended up playing with the Allman Brothers for 15 years, while also performing with other offshoot bands. He finally left the Allman Brothers for good in 2014 to focus on the blues-rock band he and his wife formed, the Trucks-Tedeschi Band.

Last night, Trucks-Tedeschi opened their St. Louis show with a tribute to Uncle Butch – an incredible version of the Allman Brothers’ Statesboro Blues.  Watch below…

Jon Bon Jovi Leads “Prayer” Singalong During Pats Playoff Win

As the Patriots were finishing off the Falcons during Sunday’s playoff game, Jon Bon Jovi led a singalong of “Livin’ on a Prayer” from a suite while hangin’ tough with actor Donnie Wahlberg.

Mick Jagger in a Dollar Store

Just came across THIS SLIDESHOW by Mark Romanek that starts with a photo of Mick Jagger in a 99-cent store in Los Angeles.

The expression on his face is pretty funny. He had never seen one of those stores before, as you might have guessed.

Download Seger’s “Glenn’s Song” Free, on 1-Year Anniversary of Frey’s Death

Bob Seger has written a song for his longtime friend, Glenn Frey, and allowing the public to download it for free, HERE.

Seger told Rolling Stone the song he recorded in Nashville about 4 months ago isn’t meant to be a hit. “The idea was just to honor his memory and talk, very specifically, about my impression of him in 1966 when we first met.”

In the early days of Frey’s career, he sang backup in Bob Seger’s band. The two Detroit-ians remained friends until Glenn’s death, one year ago today.

Once Glenn found fame and glory with the Eagles, it was Seger’s voice providing some backing vocals on one of their hits, “Heartache Tonight.”

Bennie & the Jets, Tiny Dancer and Rocket Man were all made well before the video era so there are no videos for those classic tunes.

Elton & Bernie share details on their contest, titled “The Cut” in the video below:
