More Details on East Coast/West Coast Music Festivals

We already knew the places and two heavy hitters in these festivals… The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac.

Now we know when and who else.

Classic West will be at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on July 15th and 16th.

Classic East will be at  Citi Field in New York on July 29th and 30th.

The lineups will be the same for each weekend…

The Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan will open for the Eagles on Friday night.

Journey and Earth, Wind, & Fire will open for Fleetwood Mac on Saturday night.

We still don’t have any info on pricing or on sale dates yet, but if the success of Desert Trip last year is any indication, you might want to start saving. And be ready to buy as soon as they go on sale cause they’ll probably be gone in a couple hours.

The Eagles to Play Again?

Pick a side. (Cuz I know you’re gonna.)

Yes, the surviving members of the Eagles love and miss Glenn Frey but as musicians, should be able to continue on doing what they love.

No. It isn’t the Eagles without Glenn Frey. They need to rename themselves.

After Frey’s death, Don Henley immediately came out and said the Eagles were no more but in the past few months he seemed to waver on that stance.

Now, according to Billboard, it looks like The Eagles are going to play again. Just over a year since Eagles co-founder Glenn Frey died, a pair of 2-day concert festivals, billed as Classic East and Classic West are being organized.

The shows will feature the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac with more acts to be signed.

The shows promoters hope they will become annual events with one show at Dodger Stadium in L.A. and the other at Citi Field in New York.

GnR Gets Booed; Angus Young Joins

I have to start by saying, I don’t think this was their fault.

Guns N’ Roses played Melbourne, Australia last night and there was a terrible traffic jam before the show. Many are saying that’s why the band started late.

Sure, Axl has been known to start shows up to 3 hours late – but not on this reunion tour. He’s been quite angelic, actually.

Then, when the band was introduced, the announcer called out SYDNEY instead of Melbourne, where they were playing. The crowd began to boo, as you might imagine.

It happens! And again, not Axl’s fault. I just feel I should defend him since he’s been so well-behaved on this tour and turning in some of the greatest performances of his career.

Oh yeah, and Angus Young joined the band on a couple of songs, including “Whole Lotta Rosie” below…

Johnny was kind enough to talk to me about his upcoming shows in the area, his latest album, how Jon Bon Jovi says he wouldn’t be a singer if not for him and so much more.

Tom Petty’s Speech Inspires as Rock World Honors Him

Ahhhh, wish I was there.

Stevie Nicks gushed about her friend, Tom Petty, before dueting with him on Stop Dragging My Heart Around, “He is as sweet as he is talented.”Foo Fighters and Gary Clark, Jr. covered Breakdown (clip below).

Kicking off Grammy weekend on Friday night, February 10, Stevie Nicks, the Foo Fighters, ELO and many more celebrated Tom Petty as the MusicCares Person of the Year.

If you’re unfamiliar with Musicares, it’s a well-respected organization that gives musicians who are struggling financially, real help with health care or other personal issues. They’ll be able to help many more now after a record-breaking 8-and-a-half million dollars was raised at the Petty event.

He was given the honor for his creative achievements, but also for his efforts to do good in the world through philanthropy. Not only did Tom give the coolest speech, he also reunited with the Heartbreakers for the first time in about 2 years. Petty’s been spending the last couple producing records, he said.

He told a couple of super-cool stories about the evils of record companies, the story behind Free Fallin’, hangin’ with George Harrison and the origins of rock ‘n’ roll (“the ROLL denotes a swing.”)

Link to Petty’s speech below. Be warned, there’s an F-bomb 7 minutes and 28 seconds in.
