The Famous Car Rally, The Gumball 3000, Has A Checkpoint Stop In Tampa Wednesday At Ray-J

If you’re into cars then you’ll want to swing by the Raymond James Stadium Wednesday between 2 and 5 pm. The world famous Gumball 3000 car rally is rolling through Tampa for a checkpoint stop on their way to Miami. This year’s rally starts in Toronto tomorrow, May 27th, and rolls through Indianapolis, Nashville, and Atlanta before it rolls through Florida with a stop in Tampa before rolling on to Miami, and then Key West.

The Gumball 3000 is always a star-studded event with a few dozen of the world’s hottest and fastest cars on tour. What started as the Cannonball Run, which yes, the movie was based on a real rally, that race was cancelled in 1979 for being too dangerous. But sometime in the 90′s, a rich model name Maximillion Cooper, yes that’s his real name, decided to bring it back with a bunch of other rich celebrities. He created a 3,000 mile course they would ‘race’ along with multiple stops in large cities as checkpoints. The Gumball 3000 races in different countries every year, and this year, the 22nd annual Gumball 3000 runs from Canada to Florida.

Here’s more background on the rally itself.

Check out a sweet Mclaren Senna that will be one of the cars at this year’s rally.

So if you’ve got around $120,000 laying around, and a car worth 5 or 6 times that, then you can be a part of the rally. Otherwise you can swing by Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Wednesday because that’s the closest many of us will ever get.
