September 13th, 2024, at a Jane’s Addiction show in Boston, singer Perry Farrell, frustrated by the monitors, takes a swing at guitarist Dave Navarro. He has to be physically removed. By December 2025, the band officially calls it quits, and this ends up being their final show.
Sadly, today in 2019, we lose former NYPD officer Edward Mahoney. You may know him better as Eddie Money.
And also sadly, today in 2015, we lose REO Speedwagon guitarist Gary Richrath.
Today in 1976, Lynyrd Skynyrd released their live album, One More From the Road. This is the only live album that the band releases before the tragic plane crash in 1977.
Today in 1971, Deep Purple on their way to a show. They write a song, “Highway Star.” They perform it that night, it goes over well, and it ends up being one of the band’s most enduring hits.
Today in 1965, The Beatles released their acoustic ballad “Yesterday.” It’s A Paul McCartney penned tune that came to him in a dream.
Then we take a look at the calendar, find a couple rock birthdays on it. Born today in 1965, Ringo Starr’s first child, ZaK Starkey, also a drummer who goes on to play for the Lightning Seeds, Oasis, and The Who. And born today in 1961, former member of Metallica and leader of Megadeth, Dave Mustaine.
