So you want to be a social media influencer? There’s a degree for that? Wait...what?

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM SMACKING YOUR KID UPSIDE THE HEAD IF YO HAVE TO HAVE THIS CONVERSATION!!!! YIKES!!!

Every parent has college majors that they WANT their kids to pursue . . . and others that make them nervous. So how would you feel about paying $100K for your kid to study . . . to become a “Social Media Influencer”?

(And yes, this is a real thing!!)

33% of Americans say they would NOT support their kid if they wanted to go to school for social media influencing . . . 43% say they WOULD . . . and 24% have no clue what to think about it. (Maybe they could be INFLUENCED?)

And this is rich: 22% of adults say THEY would be interested in enrolling in college to get a social media influencer degree themselves.

Here’s the bottom line: 32% of Americans now believe that social media influencing qualifies as a legitimate career. And 52% do NOT feel that way.

Naturally, younger Americans were more likely to say they can see it being a career than older folks.

That breaks down like this: 49% of Gen Z’ers say it is . . . 42% of Millennials . . . 32% of Gen X’ers . . . and just 19% of Boomers.

Social media influencers can be irritating and feel “fake” . . . especially while they’re trying to build their base of followers . . . but there’s no doubt that there can be money in it if you get big enough. For now, at least.

And let’s be honest: It’s basically a modern-day career in advertising or marketing, and it’s even more valuable if you’re able to spin it into things like PR, branding, design, and sales . . . and pick up A.I.-related skills.
