Orlando's Classic Hits

Hildi is an Orlando radio icon who started mid-days at XL 106.7 during the boy band craze. She drove Orlando rockers home on Cox Media Group’s former classic rock station WHTQ and now will keep WMMO listeners in the loop with upcoming rock news, artists coming to town and music releases. Originally from Long Island, NY she’s a Gator journalism grad whose musings you may have seen in a couple of Orlando Sentinel dating columns “Help Me, Hildi” and “Girls Night Out”. She grew up mercilessly teased by her 3 brothers which explains her love of football and ability to mix it up with the boys but make no mistake, she’s all girly girl! You can reach her at Hildi@wmmo.com You can tune into Hildi from 3PM-7PM weekdays.

U2 Visitor Center Planned for Ireland

They are huge all over the world, and especially in their homeland of Ireland.

So big, they’re about to become their own tourist attraction!

Sounds like they’re referring to it as the U2 Visitor Center. Sounds more like U2 Land to me!

Queen + Adam Lambert to Play the Oscars Sunday

This feels right.

Queen, with current lead singer, Adam Lambert, will perform during this Sunday’s Academy Awards telecast.

I’m guessing they’ll be playing “Bohemian Rhapsody”...I mean, I would THINK so.

The film Bohemian Rhapsody, about legendary frontman Freddie Mercury and Queen, is up for 5 Oscar Awards.

That would be a nice cherry on top!

Christine Wins FLOOR SEATS to Fleetwood Mac

We called to let Christine from Winter Park know that SHE was the lucky winner of the FLOOR SEATS to Fleetwood Mac...but days went by and we didn’t hear back.

She finally called to say she was on her way to pick up “the pair of Fleetwood Mac tickets I won”. We kinda figured she didn’t listen too closely to our message and she had no idea they were FLOOR SEATS.

So when she showed up, Denise met her in the lobby with the news. Here’s how that went down...

Next up...tickets to see Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo: A Very Intimate, Acoustic Evening at the Hard Rock May 7th. Tickets all day Saturday & Sunday.

And starting in the 7am hour Monday morning, another full week of chances to MEET STEVEN TYLER at the Florida Strawberry Festival March 3!

More Rumored Van Halen Reunion Details...

David Lee Roth said his band was going to be playing huge stadiums this summer.

Exiled bassist Michael Anthony said he hadn’t heard from the guys about it.

So, is there going to be a Van Halen reunion, or not?

According to Metalheadzone.com, a Van Halen insider named Tomas Bmyr, who works for Warner/Chapell Music, has some new information - and an announcement is said to be coming soon.

The big details, according to Bmyr are that Michael Anthony will guest on just one song at each show. Current VH bassist and Eddie Van Halen’s son, Wolfgang, will remain the bassist on all other songs.

Sammy Hagar will not be involved at all, according to Bmyr. Also, it isn’t going to be a full-scale tour. He said there will be 6 U.S. stadium dates and an additional 5-date Las Vegas residency.

We’re watching closely and will share all the details as soon as they become available.

David Gilmour Auctioning His Guitars

David Gilmour’s legendary black strat is just one of 120 guitars about to be auctioned by the legendary Pink Floyd guitarist.

The guitar is expected to fetch between $100,000 and $150,000 when Christie’s releases it for auction June 20th. CLICK HERE to view the auction listing.

I’m thinking it will go for waaaay more than that. This guitar was used on “Money”, “Wish You Were Here” and “Comfortably Numb”, just to name a few.

In a statement, Gilmour said, ‘These guitars have given so much to me, and it’s time for them to move on to other people who hopefully will find joy, and perhaps create something new.’

The most impressive thing about the auction is where the money is going. ALL of it, to charity.

Gilmour said, “By auctioning these guitars, I hope that I can give some help where it is really needed and through my charitable foundation do some good in this world. It will be a wrench to see them go and perhaps one day I’ll have to track one or two of them down and buy them back!”

Gilmour bought the famous black strat at Manny’s on West 48th Street in New York City back in 1970. The biggest guitarists in the world bought guitars from Manny’s. When playing shows at Madison Square Garden, they’d stop in and play a few until they found their next, beloved instrument. Jimi, Eddie, Eric, Stevie...all of ‘em.

That street used to be known as “the music district”, with stores that sold instruments lining the street. But sadly, each one of those special stores has closed in the past 10 years.

But that’s a story for another day...

Best Cop Response to Best Ticket Excuse

A driver in Manitoba was nabbed going 90 miles an hour. As the officer wrote him a very expensive ticket, the driver said it was all Mötley Crüe’s fault.

I mean, come ON! Kickstart My Heart had just come on the radio. He’s only human, after all.

In the best response ever, the Royal Mounted Canadian Police posted a photo of the officer’s radar display (it shows 145 kmh - that’s Canadian for 90 miles an hour) with a caption that said:

“This driver’s excuse for going 145kmh? Kickstart my Heart by Mötley Crüe was on the radio. Funny enough, our officer knew he was telling the truth, since he was also listening to it - just at a much slower & safer speed. Fined $639.   #noexcuses #AlwaysGotTheCopsComingAfterMe

Home Release Date Announced for “Bohemian Rhapsody” Movie

If you’re one of the many rock fans who say the Bohemian Rhapsody movie more than once, soon you will get to watch as much as you like from the comfort of your own home - although, if you haven’t yet seen it on the big movie theater screen, please do that first!

Bohemian Rhapsody will see digital release on January 22nd and then will be available to take home on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray and DVD on February 12th.

In other news, Queen guitarist Brian May told Newsweek that the band didn’t expect the film to do as well as it did.

"We thought it would do quite well. We didn't expect it to be a record-breaking blockbuster,” May said.

May, also a PhD in astrophysics, recently recorded a new song that features recently-departed astrogenius Stephen Hawking. It’s called “New Horizons”, named for the NASA space probe it celebrates.

Triple A Offering You & Your Car a Ride Home if You’re Impaired

Best to plan ahead, of course. Plan not to drink or use a designated driver or Uber, Lyft or cab to your party destination...

It is a confidential, free service but there are restrictions. The offer is good from New Year’s Eve until 6am January 2.

For example, please do not ask the poor dude who just had to fight New Year’s traffic and hook your car up to the tow truck to also take you AND your posse home. Not gonna happen...

Van Halen Reunion with Mike Anthony? Not So Fast...

Michael Anthony, former Van Halen bassist (and provider of key backing vocals), seemed to put a damper on 2019 reunion rumors for the band. Or DID he?

Backstory: David Lee Roth recently told rock journalist Eddie Trunk in New York, that the band would "come back through town in the summertime and do the original thing, maybe somewhere sportin', maybe with somebody famous…. next time my rock band will be playing the same place that the Yankees play."

Trunk has said he heard other rumors, from good sources, that there would be a 2019 tour of the classic lineup.

Now, although internet stories are reporting Mike Anthony’s comments as “shooting down” the reunion rumors. I say, “Oh contrare!”

Here are Anthony’s exact words as told to a reporter with Premiere Radio Networks on Wednesday (12/26):

"The only comment I have is that I haven't spoken to any of the guys since we last played together back in 2004.”

So what! We all know these things come together through promoters and agents. It’s all about the Benjamins. And the glory. And redemption!

Wild Stock Market Swings in December

DISCLAIMER: I am ignorant about the stock market.

Which is why I excitedly posted a story about yesterday’s historic stock market gain, which seemed to wipe out previous plunges.

Nope.

It’s been a December of wild swings on Wall Street. Just in the last few days, a giant plunge followed by  the biggest point gain in history, which would have wiped out the losses - if not for the next day and another giant plunge.

So if you have resisted the urge to check on your 401k balance, perhaps it’s best to keep resisting, until things settle down.

Keep seeing reports of the worst December stock market since...you don’t wanna know.

Fleetwood Mac Settles Lawsuit with Lindsey; Reunion Door May Still Be Open

Sounds like Fleetwood Mac has paid Lindsey Buckingham, after he sued the band for firing him before their latest tour. Terms of the settlement are private.

In an interview with CBS, Buckingham described an email sent to him by former bandmate Christine McVie in which she denied having had anything at all to do with his ousting. Buckingham says Christine also mentioned her belief that he is missed.

Buckingham provided all the details of  how and why he was let go in the video below, as well.

See Queen’s Actual Costumes, Appreciate the Movie Even More

Thrilled to learn today that Rami Malek has been nominated for a Golden Globe award for his portrayal of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in the Bohemian Rhapsody movie.

The movie is now the highest-earning music biopic of all time - and still earning.

I’ve seen it twice and will probably go once more before New Year’s.

Two things blew my mind.

1. Rami Malek was so believable as Freddie Mercury, you would literally forget that you weren’t watching Freddie himself.

2. The costumes worn by everyone in the film were so authentic, you remembered seeing the band wearing them in live footage and photographs you’ve seen so many times over the years.

In my opinion, Rami Malek and costume designer Julian Day both deserve Oscar Awards for their work on this film.

I rest my case with photos of Queen’s actual costumes. SEE THEM HERE
