Ex-Fort Campbell soldier to serve 15 years in rape, killing of 8-month-old daughter

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — An ex-soldier at Kentucky’s Fort Campbell will spend 15 years behind bars after he pleaded no contest to second-degree murder in the 2017 death of his 8-month-old daughter.

According to the Leaf-Chronicle and WZTV, Christopher Paul Conway, 25, of Clarksville, Tennessee, agreed to the plea deal Friday, nearly three years after one of his twin daughters, Adeline, was raped and strangled with a dehumidifier cord, investigators said. She was pronounced dead at a Clarksville hospital on Nov. 14, 2017, the news outlets reported.

Although authorities said Conway confessed to raping and killing the child, he later denied the allegations, according to the Leaf-Chronicle.

Conway initially faced several charges, including first-degree murder while committing a crime, aggravated rape of a child and aggravated child abuse, the Leaf-Chronicle reported. His attorney, Edward DeWerff, told the newspaper that Conway likely would have been convicted and sentenced to “51 calendar years” in prison if he hadn’t agreed to the plea deal.

Conway will not be eligible for parole, WZTV reported.
