‘Innocent bystander’ killed in Massachusetts; suspect in custody

HOLYOKE, Mass. — An “innocent bystander” was shot and killed Saturday evening in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Officials say the suspect is in custody.

Holyoke Police Department officers were called out to Holyoke Mall just before 7 p.m. Saturday evening for a shots fired call, according to WFXT.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni in a news release said that one person was killed and the suspected shooter is in custody.

The DA said that the incident occurred between two known parties. He said the victim was an “innocent bystander to a confrontation between two other people.”

The mall reopened Sunday morning, according to The Associated Press.

Holyoke Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police are investigating the incident, according to WFXT.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information has been released.
