Small business owner Sherina Jones created the Village (FREE)DGE in August to help those who are food insecure in Liberty City, WSVN reported.

Jones and others would stock the fridge daily with fresh fruits and vegetables and other items.

“We load it in the morning with breakfast, so in the morning, most people come get breakfast or either a lunch item, and in the afternoon we put lunch items, and in the evening we put dinner things, in there,” she told WSVN earlier this year.

The fridge was setup at the Roots Black House print shop. Owners provided electricity to it as well as a location for people to leave donations.

“There’s times where us ordinary citizens can be a real village to help each other out, so I decided we’d get behind family and behind a great initiative,” Isaiah Thomas, who helps run the print shop, told WSVN.

The fridge was stolen Tuesday just days before the group planned a Thanksgiving turkey drive, WPLG reported.

“Despite the Village (FREE)DGE being stolen last night, today’s Thanksgiving turkey giveaway was so beautiful and successful,” the group said on social media. “We did it guys.”

Jones has set up two more free fridge locations since opening the first one in August.
