Hurricane Ian: Here’s when Central Florida’s colleges & universities plan to reopen

ORLANDO, Fla. — Colleges and universities around Central Florida are gearing up to open their doors back up amid the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.

Some institutions have reopened their campuses while others are assessing damages left by the storm.

Read below to see which schools have reopened and which ones remain closed:

University of Central Florida

UCF will reopen Tuesday after Hurricane Ian hit last week.

The university had previously announced it would open Monday, but later said it would remain closed to further support students and employees.

They said those who are already back on campus will have access to dining services, recreation and wellness, and other student services.

The UCF football game against Southern Methodist University that was previously scheduled for Saturday before being rescheduled to Sunday will now be played Wednesday. Click here for more information.

Valencia College

Valencia College will reopen each of its campuses Tuesday.

College officials said that students who have been severely affected by Hurricane Ian and have immediate needs can reach out to them or send a message through social media. Click here for more information.

Rollins College

Rollins College began a phased reopening of campus and its residence halls Sunday.

Officials said that the institution has no scheduled classes for Oct. 3 and Oct. 4.

Between Oct. 5 and Oct. 7 classes could be held virtually based on individual faculty’s preferences.

Full Sail University

Full Sail’s campus reopened Saturday.

Administrators said that students should keep an eye out for changes made to their class schedules. Click here for more information.

Bethune-Cookman University

Bethune-Cookman University will remain closed for the rest of the week.

The university evacuated its campuses Sept. 26 and made all classes remote.

The school plans to keep its doors closed so that students, faculty and staff can recover from the hurricane.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Following Hurricane Ian, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Daytona Beach campus has resumed normal operations as of Saturday.
