Victor Campbell Jr., 35, was taken into police custody following his release from the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries following the crash. He currently faces charges of felony evading arrest, driving while intoxicated, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse, KTRK reported.

Johnson’s cause of death remains under investigation, and an autopsy has been ordered, but investigators have not yet been able to provide “concrete information” on the nature of the relationship between Campbell and Johnson, KRIV reported.

According to KTRK, Campbell stayed at Johnson’s Houston residence occasionally, and he reportedly covered the surveillance camera on his side of the duplex. Video from the camera on the other side of the duplex, which has been given to investigators, appears to show Campbell backing up Johnson’s car to the door and loading her body into the vehicle’s trunk around 4:55 a.m. Saturday.
