Gary Rossington’s former mansion just sold for almost $7 million - let’s look inside!

Gary Rossington's former estate "Freebird's Nest" has been sold Take a look inside Freebird's Nest in Milton GA. (Drone Media Solutions/Drone Media Solutions)

Gary Rossington was one of the guys who helped build Lynyrd Skynyrd from the ground up. He was there from the beginning, survived the band’s unimaginable highs and lows, and remained a part of Skynyrd’s story for more than 50 years. Rossington passed away in 2023, and last month, his longtime estate in Milton, Georgia aptly named “Freebird’s Nest” officially changed hands. I’ve finally gotten my hands on the photo gallery from the listing... so let’s take a look inside.

The estate sits on 36 acres and includes more than 7,500 square feet of living space, with a private lake, swimming pool, barn, second residence and plenty of room to spread out. There’s a finished lower level with a wet bar, billiards and entertainment space, along with Rossington’s music studio. Add in the gated entrance, winding private drive and all that land, and you can see why this wasn’t exactly your average rock star home. It feels more like a private retreat tucked away from everything.

Some of the highlights:

  • 7,516 square feet with five bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms
  • 36 acres with private lake frontage, a creek and rolling pasture
  • Private in-ground swimming pool with expansive surrounding deck
  • Rossington’s music studio located in the finished lower level
  • Wet bar, billiards and entertainment areas
  • Two docks on Sargent Lake, including a covered dock with two slips
  • Separate ranch-style second residence
  • Barn, workshops and RV/boat storage
  • Two-story foyer, vaulted ceilings and four fireplaces
  • Gated entrance with security cameras and perimeter lighting

There’s something pretty cool about getting a peek inside the home of someone who spent so much of his life on the road and in the spotlight. Rossington had an incredible run with Lynyrd Skynyrd, and this looks like the kind of place where he could come home, shut the gate and just disappear for a while. The estate sold for $6,576,950... and now we get to see what was behind those gates.
