In a new interview with People Magazine, former Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora shares more details about exactly why he stepped away from the band after 14 massive arena tours.
The two big takeaways I got from this new interview were:
1. Richie’s a great dad
2. He needed to step away to focus on self-maintenance
Jon Bon Jovi has said in previous interviews that Richie stopped showing up in the middle of their 2013 tour. He also told a German interviewer that Richie “didn’t have his life together.”
A few years down the road from that statement, Sambora explained his exit to Rolling Stone, “My daughter needed me at that time; my dad’s dying of cancer. I was in the middle of a (blank) divorce, and I busted my shoulder up … And it was like, ‘You know, I think the universe is telling me to take a break for a while.’”
