September 20th, 2004, Billy Joel gets his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Take a look at Billy’s career. There are so many hit songs, so many awards that he’s won. Without a doubt, he’s deserving of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Today in 1979, The Clash are playing the Palladium in New York City. Bassist Paul Simonon gets a bit frustrated. He feels like the crowd is not reacting the way he’d like them to. So he gets a bit angry and smashes his Fender bass on the stage. He smashes it to pieces. That moment captured in this photograph, which would become the iconic album cover for “London Calling.” That bass still exists. It showed up in a number of clash exhibits through the years in different museums.
Then we take a look at the calendar. We find a few birthdays on it. Born today in 1966, guitarist from Extreme, Nuno Bettencourt, and born today in 1948, fraternal twins Chuck and John Panozzo from Styx. They were the band’s rhythm section. Chuck, who played bass, and the late John, who sadly we lost in 1996, was the band’s drummer.
