September 26, 2003. Sadly, we lose Robert Palmer. He’s only 54 years old, and he passes a heart attack in a Paris hotel room. Now, when you think about Robert’s career, so many people immediately dial in on “Addicted to Love” and the accompanying video, which was absolutely iconic. The song was a huge hit. The video influenced so many things around it in culture. Robert did so much more than that in music. He had music much like Little Feat with his song “Sneaking Sally Through the Alley.” He also did an album Caribbean Influence that included his cover of the reggae classic “Pressure Drop” and even music that bordered on New Wave with songs like “Looking for Clues.” very much Robert with an expansive career that influenced a lot of people.
Today in 1974, John Lennon releases his album “Walls and Bridges.” Now this album includes the top 10 hit “#9 Dream” and the only number one hit that John would have as a solo artist in the US or the UK in “Whatever Gets You Through the Night”, a song that John worked on with his good friend Elton John.
And today in 1969, legendary music promoter, the late Bill Graham, opens the Fillmore West, which is pretty much a carbon copy of his East Coast club, the Fillmore East.
