A lot of people are expecting it’s going to be former singer David Lee Roth because a couple of months earlier, Dave had recorded 2 new songs with the band. But no, it turns out to be Extreme singer Gary Cherone. They do one album together, one tour. The fans don’t really seem to be interested. Nobody supports it, and the band eventually returns to David Lee Roth as their singer.
Today in 1980, Queen go to number one on the charts with “Another One Bites the Dust.” This is a single they released because they were urged to do just that by Michael Jackson. The song stays in the number one slot for three weeks, so it seems like Michael knew what he was talking about.
Today in 1970, Janis Joplin, found dead of a heroin overdosed at the Landmark Hotel in Los Angeles. She ends up being another member of the 27 Club, being only 27 years old.
Today in 1969, Creedence Clearwater Revival goes to number one on the album charts with their album “Green River.”
And today in 1968, Cream kick off their announced farewell tour. They do indeed break up and then reunite in 2005.
