It was this performance that actually made Bruce Springsteen call the halftime producers and say he wants to do the show, which he did the very next year. And this was your favorite halftime show of all.
They kicked off their set with “American Girl” and segued into “I Won’t Back Down” second. Then they brought the lights, and the house, down as they slipped into “Free Fallin’”, and they wrapped up the night with “Runnin’ Down A Dream”.
All in all compared to some other halftime shows it was less frilly and a little more low energy than many of the pop sets or combo shows that have happened at the halftime, but it was a perfect Tom Petty set and that’s all you need.
