Alphabet, the parent company of Google, is asking those interested to use the chatbot and give feedback on the product, which the company hopes will successfully go up against OpenAI’s popular ChatGPT. The startup is backed by Microsoft, Reuters reported.

Both Bard and ChatGPT employ artificial intelligence technology to accomplish a variety of tasks, from writing papers to answering questions.

Starting now in the United States and the United Kingdom, users can join a waiting list for English-language access to Bard. The chatbot will accommodate additional users, countries and languages over time, Google executives said in an interview with The New York Times.

Bard had only been open to approved testers and the release to the public comes after other tech companies have launched their new AI products.

According to the Times, Google has been working on Bard since 2015. Bard, Google says, uses a technology that relies on past data to give a response rather than identify content.
